With Liz feeling sick on Friday, the boys and I braved the weather to visit the USS Arizona Memorial. Instead of taking a direct private shuttle, we caught the city bus which took us an hour with all the stops. I kept my eyes out for the correct bus while the boys enjoyed some video game action. We arrived at Pearl Harbor and received our tickets...it would be a couple of hours before we would have the chance to set foot on the Memorial. Until then the boys enjoyed walking around and seeing the sites, especially playing on an old anti-aircraft artillery weapon. We grabbed a bite to eat, after which it was time to visit the actual Memorial. We first saw a 30 minute video explaining the history of the attack on Pearl Harbor, and then it was a short boat ride out to the site. The picture below is of the boys standing in front of the remains of one of the USS Arizona's 14" gun turrets.
After leaving the Arizona it was time to go back to Waikiki. It was then that our luck with the weather ran out....it started to pour down rain. I spotted some cheap rain ponchos at the gift shop and decided to press on. The boys seemed to relish the adventure in the rain and we made it safely to the covered bus stop. On the way home, the boys enjoyed some more time with their DS games while I caught up on some emails on my phone. I guess I was so enthralled with some particular email that I didn't happen to notice that Caleb fell asleep in the lap of the woman next to him on the bus (she is also pictured below...I apparently took this photo before he conked out). It was a fun experience although Caleb is still asking me if Japan will attack Hawaii again.
(Kevin took these photos and wrote this update. Did you happen to notice the same clothes on the boys as the night before?...see Luau:) I am very appreciative that Kevin took the kids for the day and filled in for me on the blogging, too...thanks, honey:))
