Joe was recently accepted by a local organization called "a Wish with Wings" to be granted any wish of his hearts desire. The requirements included residence in the state of Texas and the diagnosis of a life-threatening disease. Joe was referred to the program by our doctor and his first choice of wishes was approved by the program - Joe (and family) will be travelling to Hawaii to swim with the dolphins next year! (Joe's response when questioned about his wish was, "I need a vacation after all of this.") Look for more posts to follow after our trip in February.
During this wish process, Joe has enjoyed meeting the staff at "a Wish with Wings" and they have all been wonderful at spoiling him! In addition to the fabulous trip that is being planned, we were invited to attend their Holiday Party the week of Thanksgiving. It was held at a delicious steak house downtown Fort Worth called Del Frisco's. The restaurant was opened just for this event and the street in front of it was blocked off by the Fort Worth Police for all of the activities. There was excitement in every direction from the moment we arrived at the party until we left three hours later. The party included visits from Santa and Mrs. Claus, their Elves, Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph, Batman, Ranger Captain, the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders and Mayor Mike Moncrief. There were balloon swords, gifts on Santa's lap, fire truck rides, stocking gifts, the Bat Mobile, Herbie the Love Bug, Christmas music, story time with Santa, snow falling in the restaurant, an incredible staff at Del Frisco's, singing and lots of smiling. Our car was stuffed with gifts and goodies when we left and the kids slept well that night. It was an amazing event we will not forget.
