Wednesday, April 14 - Good Day/Good News

This has been a great day for Joe. He got out of bed and took a walk around the floor with the nurse...and still had a smile on his face when he returned. He is getting out of bed to use the bathroom with less and less assistance and with less and less discomfort. He is in a good mood and has a sweet smiling face.

On another note, the oncologist and surgeon say the preliminary reports on the tumor appear to be FAVORABLE. Praise God! The final results should be completed sometime tomorrow but they feel that if there were unfavorable cells or anaplasia, it would have shown up already. There couldn't be better news. Prayers are being answered and we are feeling a huge amount of relief! A final plan of treatment will be discussed in the next few days but they indicated we should expect Joe to have about 7 days of radiation and about 28 weeks of chemotherapy. Both these treatments should be very tolerable for Joe since it was a favorable tumor and the success rate is deemed very high. Considering the length of his surgery (about 6 hours) he is recovering extremely well and we heard they may even consider discharging him in a day or two. The radiation and chemotherapy treatments should be able to be outpatient procedures and may begin as early as Monday or Tuesday.

We are praising God with this wonderful news and wanted to share it with all of you as soon as we could. We cannot thank everyone enough for everything they are doing for us except to humbly say THANK YOU.

Elizabeth and Kevin,
Our families have never met...yet we are united in your storm through our Heavenly Father. We are praying for a complete healing of Joe's body, strength and comfort for both of you, patience for your other boys, guidance, knowledge and compassion for Joe's doctors and nurses. We will praise God in this storm and give Him all the glory when Joe has overcome!

In Christ,

Let God continue to carry you.....
I love that little boys smile...
When you get home I want to come visit.. didn't want to bother you in hospital... Love you all so much...
Thinking of you constantly..praying for you fervently..have all my friends all over the state of Texas AND Utah praying for that special angel...
Can not wait for you to be able to come home and get some sort of normalcy back...

dear neighbors, we are praying hard with our kiddos for you all. We know Joe has the toughest part, but all of you are in this together. We are unfortunately a little battle weary Cook's veterans ourselves. . .
We started with the "dear neighbors" part because if Jeffery Daniels is correct, you live 400 yards from us--ie. if you need some help (watering, taking care of somthing, etc.) we're close.

Praise God! I can just see Joe walking around in little hospital clothes with a cute grin on his face. What a wonderful day! This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! My little nieces and nephew are praying for Joe, too. Once niece prays (in a little 5 yr old voice), "Don't be scared, Joe. God is with you."
Love,
Jill

Praise the LORD! I don't know you, but I am in community group with Pam Howell. I am familiar with the Wilms Tumor journey, through a little boy named Pablo. His father started a foundation called Pablove, and is doing amazing work with childhood cancer. You may find it very helpful, and I know they have a community of support, including people that know PRECISELY what you are going through. www.pablove.org...and his blog is www.getwellpablo.blogspot.com
