Joe had his fourth chemotherapy treatment today. It was a combination of two medicines - Vincristine and Doxorubicin. The Doxorubicin was given at 50 percent strength this time as the time frame for this treatment fell within 6 weeks of his completed abdominal radiation treatment (the protocol for the medicine). The Doxorubicin will likely be one of the medicines that make him feel a little more sick so the reduced strength this time around may be in his favor. Another side affect, that Joe thinks is funny, is that his urine and possibly his sweat will turn red. At least we were warned so we won't be alarmed when that happens. It was a long day at the clinic but they had various distractions as ususal for Joe. There was a band that stopped by on the lawn outside the hopsital to play some classical music which we were able to enjoy while we waited. Also, two clowns showed up at the clinic and perfomed some funny tricks to get Joe and the other kids laughing. They always have many games, the Wii, crafts, books and Child Life workers to help entertain the kids and keep them busy and everyone is so nice. The time went by fast for us and it is fun to watch Joe laugh and have such an enjoyable time. Joe is getting used to the treatments and we are getting used to what we should expect so there were no surprises. He handles the needles great and is even getting better at having the tape removed from his port when they deaccess it. As of tonight, Joe had a decrease in appetite but he has not vomited. He still has a bundle of energy as do the rest of the boys. You can ask my friend, Christine Sisk, who sat with the 3 other boys today while we were gone and I am sure she will vouch for that! It is hard on these rainy days because little boys need to get outside and play every day to release their energy. We are once again pleased that Joe is doing so well and thankful that God is walking with him and our family every step of the way.
